Juneteenth Celebration in Institute Park

On June 19th every year, a celebration takes place to mark the 145th anniversary of the effective end of slavery in America. On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers liberated the country’s last slaves in Galveston, Texas, where residents still held slaves more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation freed them.

This was my first time ever attending a Juneteenth Celebration anywhere. This celebration took place in the town where I now live, Worcester, MA at Institute Park. There were many speakers, dancers and musicians including world-renowned contemporary jazz and R&B artist, Walter Beasley. Margaret and I manned a booth with our wonderful Silpada jewelry. It was such a beautiful day. I met a lot of people and caught up with a lot of friends. Already planning to attend next years festivities.

Love you.
Miss you.
Bye, Bye
